One of dentistry’s dirty little secrets is that zirconia is largely unregulated, so just writing “no. 3 zirconia crown” on a lab slip doesn’t cut it. We won’t know the strength of the zirconia we’re getting.

In this video, we’ll cover a lot of ground about zirconia in just a short time. We’ll discuss its physical properties as well as ways to communicate about zirconia to the lab so we can get what we want.

Keep in mind these three keys to working with zirconia:

  • Know what zirconia you’re prescribing.
  • Make sure you’re handling the zirconia properly.
  • Make a mindful decision on whether to lute or bond.
