I have it—you want it! Omega Battery & Headlight System

June 1, 2021
In this bimonthly column, Dr. Howard Glazer reviews a promising new product or material to hit the dental industry. In this installment, learn more about the lightweight Omega battery and headlight from Ultralight Optics.

Are you tired of your loupes sliding down your nose or tugging on your ears due to the weight of your LED loupe light? If so, then Ultralight Optics has the answer in their innovative new battery that is worn around your neck.

Resembling the “omega” symbol in the Greek alphabet, this cordless light system is extremely lightweight, only 2g (less than a nickel) and designed to provide extended battery life of 6-8 hours. The light intensity is approximately 3,600 foot candles. There is a short magnetic connector that attaches the LED light to the battery pack, eliminating the tangle of a longer cord. There is no on/off switch to worry about, as you simply move your head to tap the light on or off. This is another great innovation from Ultralight Optics, who first introduced the smallest LED loupe light on the market, and to my knowledge, the first touch-free battery pack for turning on/off your LED light. Ultralight Optics also makes a PPE face shield designed to mount on the outer surface of the light, as well as many other useful PPE products. Full illumination and no slippage or neck strain are excellent reasons to try the reasonably priced Omega system.
