Our editorial board helps us provide the latest and greatest information to our readers. Let’s meet one of them!

Tell us about a product or technology that has recently changed your world.

There is nothing that has essentially “changed my world,” per se, because I’m one of those dentists who tries all things new—products, technologies, etc. I often look at dental magazine ads, request samples, and give things a go; for better or worse, it keeps me on my toes in the clinical setting, and I appreciate that. I love digital dentistry, yet despite feeling the pressure to “own and do everything digital right now,” the transition process takes time and planning. I maximize my opportunities to understand all I can, so the best pragmatic decision can be made as to how it can all be incorporated into my practice.

What’s a piece of advice you wish you knew five years ago?

As the saying goes, “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” This mantra has stayed with me from day one and can be applied to every aspect of dentistry, clinical and practice management. Don’t overthink things! If you need to change something, change it. If you need to fire someone, fire them. If you want to invest in a new technology (or anything, for that matter), invest. Don’t let complacency hinder your potential. Have zero regrets, and don’t forget to enjoy the ride!

Name: Stacey L. Gividen, DDS

Practices at: Canyon View Dental PC

Location: Hamilton, Montana

Dental school: Marquette University School of Dentistry, 2004

Areas of expertise: I have a true respect for the nuts and bolts of dentistry and applying new concepts to old ideas. My monthly blogs (in DE’s Breakthrough Clinical e-newsletter) focus on clinical challenges that I’ve had and what I’ve done to overcome them, while reminding my fellow dental colleagues we’re all essentially in the same boat. Oh yeah, I’m a pathology nerd too.
