I must commend and give kudos to Dr. Joe Steven Jr. for his April viewpoint ("You can`t be everybody`s dentist ... but try!). If we were to believe most of the standard dental journals and newsletters, anyone using amalgam, extracting teeth, placing dentures, placing full-gold crowns, and doing basic root canals - in other words, anyone not doing six anterior veneers, posterior composites, onlays, etc. - might as well be using leeches and blood-letting to help patients. Finally, a voice in the wilderness that says it`s OK to be busy, see a good volume of people, utilize the skills we have as general-practice dentists, and make a good living at the same time.
Do I expect to see more of this type of writing and opinion in the future? Not really, but I`ll keep hoping. In the meantime, I`ll keep patiently waiting. Now I must get back to work. I have a gold crown to cement, dentures to adjust, and a couple of hygiene exams to perform. And, you know what? I like it!
