Surgical instrumentation that facilitates tooth extraction in preparation for immediate implant placement is available now from Nobel Biocare. The instrument, Periotome, makes it possible to extract a tooth in a less-traumatic manner than is typically achieved with a standard surgical elevator. The delicate Periotome blade is used to cut the periodontal fibers that hold the tooth to be extracted in place. Once the fibers are severed, the tooth can be eased from the socket gently, avoiding any inadvertent damage to thin buccal bone or soft tissue.

Nobel Biocare`s new Periotome kit includes a handle and three interchangeable blades. The blades are fabricated from surgical-grade stainless steel.
