Stepping into the offices of Dr. Mark Chase of Phoenix, Ariz. is like stepping into an English country estate.

Stepping into the offices of Dr. Mark Chase of Phoenix, Ariz. is like stepping into an English country estate.

Rich library paneling, crown moldings, and arched, diamond-beveled windows make for a luxurious yet comfortable reception area.

Dr. Mark Chase is a 1984 graduate of the University of the Pacific who settled in Glendale, Ariz. Early on, Dr. Chase established his philosophy of providing great patient care in a friendly, comfortable environment. Prior to building his present office, he practiced out of two other locations. His first was 1,000 square feet, while the second was 1,350 square feet. Over the years, the practice has moved in the direction of providing a higher and higher level of aesthetic dentistry.

Dr. Chase wanted to create a new office that says to patients, "We are different — and you are in the right place." I think readers will agree that he has certainly achieved that goal. This is one of the most elegant offices that I have seen. Dr. Chase feels that most dentistry is discretionary, particularly cosmetic dentistry, and it can be expensive. He believes that patients — to some degree — judge your competence as a clinician on the look and feel of your office. While they don't have to be spectacular, offices do need to be up-to-date, clean, functional, and tasteful. Dr. Chase chose to create an office with state-of-the-art design and exquisite furnishings, fixtures, and materials. He wanted it to feel more like a comfortable home than an office.

Dr. Chase feels that one of the fringe benefits of having such a well-appointed office is that he is much more confident during case presentations, particularly larger cases and that his high level of confidence results in greater case acceptance. In short, his office is consistent with the level of dentistry provided.

The comfort and luxury of this office extends into the operatories.

Most of the offices in the Phoenix area are either quite generic or incorporate Southwestern architectural details, so Dr. Chase chose a Tudor style that demands attention from the street. He wanted the building to have a "presence." Dr. Chase typically averages four new patients a day who either walk in or call after driving by.

Dr. Chase relied heavily on the expertise of T.H.E. Design to help him with the implementation of his ideas. The Matsco Companies put together the financing packages that allowed him to build the office of his dreams.

The next time I am in Phoenix, I plan to stop by and see this beautiful, functional office and personally congratulate Dr. Mark Chase.
