A new prescription medication is available now to dentists to provide help to the millions of canker sore sufferers in the United States. Block Drug Company introduces Aphthasol( (amlexanox oral paste, 5 percent) - the first and only prescription medication indicated specifically for the treatment of canker sores in patients with normal immune systems.

Unlike cold sores, found on the lips or fixed linings of the mouth, canker sores are generally found on the moveable lining of the mouth such as the tongue or the lining of the cheek.

Numerous over-the-counter products are available to offer temporary relief, but Aphthasol is the only prescription medication specifically indicated to treat canker sores. A specific cause for canker sores is unknown. A variety of factors appear to be linked to their development: stress, hormonal changes, trauma, bacterial infection, nutritional deficiencies, allergies and immunologic abnormalities.

Aphthasol is available in 5 gm tubes. For additional information, circle the number below.
