The AeroPro Cordless Prophy System by Premier
Sometimes we create unintended consequences in dentistry. Maybe we inadvertently pop off a crown or nick an adjacent tooth on a crown prep. Perhaps we get a piece of equipment that creates an unexpected problem.
Speaking of equipment, I recently upgraded one of my treatment rooms to the KaVo ELECTROmatic Premium Dual electric motor system. This put a slow- and a high-speed electric handpiece on my delivery system. What I didn't anticipate was that I lost my ability to run a prophy handpiece in that operatory.
Since that room is also used for hygiene on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, I needed to find a solution; we can't do hygiene without a prophy handpiece. The AeroPro Cordless Prophy System by Premier ended up being a great choice.
How the AeroPro works
This cordless hygiene handpiece is one that your hygiene department will love. It makes polishing simple, easy, and effective without being chained to a delivery system. No foot pedals are needed - all the controls are on the body of the handpiece. A quick -touch button turns it on and off and lets you toggle between a low and high speed. The AeroPro features a light-up battery gauge that displays the power level. When it's low, the quick charge system ensures the handpiece is ready to use again promptly.
The AeroPro is compatible with most disposable prophy angles and allows for a 360-degree rotation, making the hygienist more comfortable.
Safety features
It also has some great infection control features. A disposable barrier sleeve goes over the AeroPro, and then an autoclavable outer sheath goes on top of the disposable barrier. Hygienists can safely use the device on different patients every hour without worrying about debris from prophy paste or pumice. With a couple of extra sheaths, the AeroPro can be used all day without any issues!
My hygienists enjoy using the AeroPro Cordless Prophy System because it's easy to use and ergonomic. It makes their lives easier, which makes my life easier! Single back up the middle to centerfield for Premier on the AeroPro Cordless Prophy handpiece!
The ELECTROmatic Premium by KaVo
The other day, I was doing a resin composite on no. 4, and while I was placing and shaping the restoration, I wondered: "What item in this office do I pick up the most often?" My initial thought was my iPhone, but that isn't a dental tool. What about etch or adhesive? Composite? Maybe my curing light?
The answer was my handpiece. I can't imagine any restorative dentist going through a day without touching a handpiece 10-20 times. It's literally the engine that runs our practices. That said, we should use the engine that will run most efficiently and effectively. Why not try the ELECTROmatic Premium?
Why the ELECTROmatic Premium works
This motor system is made by KaVo, a household brand known for high-quality, long-lasting handpieces. This electric motor system can integrate all your preparation and endodontics needs into a simple, all-in-one device. Using the large 4.3" LCD touch screen, you can program settings for high speed, slow speed, latch, and endo procedures. For endo, there are even saved settings already stored for many popular file systems.
The advantage to most electric systems is torque. Speed of the bur is important, but torque helps us get a smooth cut for delicate preparation. Torque is also vital for cutting through difficult materials like lithium disilicate and zirconia dioxide. The ELECTROmatic Premium motor features the SMARTdrive senseless control, which allows for high torque-even at lower speed ranges. This helps cut through ceramics at a high speed and perform interproximal reduction (IPR) for Invisalign at low speed. Overall, this system offers the power, speed, and torque I need to conquer any restorative dentistry challenge that sits in my chair.
Additional benefits
The ELECTROmatic Premium Dual has two motors: one for high speed and another for low speed. I can't tell you how nice it is to have a dual motor system for restorative dentistry. I no longer have to continuously swap my handpieces back and forth throughout the day. Having both is great for efficiency. Any E-type electric handpiece attachment will work with the ELECTROmatic Premium motor system, but KaVo MASTERmatics are some of the bests in the industry. With a tremendous warranty and quick repair program, KaVo makes the most dependable handpieces on the market. They are a great choice to pair with the ELECTROmatic Premium motor system.
I am a firm believer that we should invest in the things we heavily depend on. Sometimes we can eke by with lesser products, but not when it comes to our handpieces. Get a workhorse you can rely on for years and years - the ELECTROmatic Premium by KaVo is a purchase you won't regret! Solo home run just inside the left field foul pole for KaVo!
ReelMatrix Deep Margin Elevation Kit by Garrison Dental
What do you think are the three toughest things we do as restorative dentists? I know what's on my list, and I'm sure many would agree:
1. Converting a hybrid denture on surgery day
2. Temporizing more than six veneers
3. Dealing with deep, subgingival interproximal decay
Out of this list, no. 3 might be my least favorite-at least the other two have good reimbursement rates! If I can find any way to make deep class IIs easier, I am open to trying it. Recently, I used Garrison Dental's ReelMatrix Deep Margin Elevation kit and it was amazing.
The problem with deep class II decay is the matrix. A sectional matrix can't reach below the cavosurface margin or stay in place, and a Tofflemire matrix is often displaced by the retainer's weight. To solve this dilemma, we need something innovative. The ReelMatrix combines these things to give us a solution to the whole procedure.
Features of the ReelMatrix
The ReelMatrix Deep Margin Elevation (DME) System by Garrison Dental is customized to work for margin elevation. The bands are only around 3 mm (about 0.12 in) in height, so they allow you to raise the margin to just below the contact area. Instead of having a heavy, metal, Tofflemire-like retainer, the ReelMatrix has a small plastic retainer that can be tightened to securely fit the tooth. Once we have the margin elevated to slightly supragingival, we can remove the ReelMatrix and use a traditional sectional matrix to finish the restoration with good interproximal contact and emergence profile.
The DME kit has 50 Deep Margin matrices, a wide selection of wedges, Composi-Tight 3D matrices, and a tensioning handle instrument. This kit should be all you need, minus etch, adhesive, and resin to restore a deep class II.
I don't use this kit regularly (thank goodness), but the DME is a lifesaver when I do need it. If you decide to invest in the ReelMatrix, you'll be happy you have it! Triple to the right field corner for ReelMatrix and Garrison Dental!
