Pearls for Your Practice: d.Mistify PRO DCK by EOCA

Nov. 18, 2022
What makes this product, "basically an intraoral photography mirror holder," a no-brainer for Dr. Joshua Austin?

Difficult tasks are a part of life, unfortunately. There are things we have to do all the time that are tough. Working out. Eating right. Investing. All things that can take discipline, yet they pay off in the long run.

In dentistry, we have some of those things, too. For me, it is two class IIs next to each other, using a rubber dam, and photography. Taking pictures of teeth is a real challenge, especially when we have to take photos inside patients’ mouths! Patients do this pesky thing called breathing, where they actually have to bring oxygen into their lungs to feed the living cells of their bodies. Annoying, right? Well, that breathing can wreak havoc on our attempts to take photographs off mirrors in patient’s mouths. d.Mistify PRO DCK by EOCA takes care of that for us.

d.Mistify PRO DCK is a piece of small equipment that allows us to get superior photos of patients’ teeth. DCK stands for “data capture kit.” It is basically an intraoral photography mirror holder that also has an LED light array and a fan. This array of lights and fan keep the mirror inside the patient’s mouth from fogging up. This results in easy-to-capture, high-definition images.

d.Mistify PRO DCK comes with five intraoral mirrors: adult occlusal, child occlusal, arch, straight, and site-specific. This should allow you to capture anything easily, from a full occlusal view for orthodontics all the way down to a photo of a single tooth issue such as a crack or caries. It also will allow you or your auxiliaries to capture most images on their own, without another set of hands. Using the d.Mistify PRO DCK, my team can capture a full set of Invisalign photos by themselves in just around three to five minutes. That would not have been possible without it.

The d.Mistify PRO DCK unit is rechargeable, so you don’t need to worry about replacing AA batteries. With 20 minutes and the included USB-C cable, a d.Mistify PRO DCK unit can go from zero to fully charged. That full charge will give up to 30 minutes of continuous use. Fortunately, we never need to use the unit for that long, so a full charge is good for many patients.

The way I know that the d.Mistify PRO DCK is a winner is from my team. They love using it and thanked me immediately after we got it. They loved it so much, in fact, that we actually ordered five more. At the very reasonable cost that EOCA charges for the d.Mistify PRO DCK ($149 per full kit), this was a no-brainer.
