I have it—you want it! Oral-B iO Toothbrush

Aug. 29, 2021
In this bimonthly column, Dr. Howard Glazer reviews a promising new product or material to hit the dental industry. In this installment, learn more about the Oral-B iO Toothbrush.

Who’d ever think that brushing your teeth could be fun? Oral-B thought so and created a really cool electric toothbrush with the Oral-B iO. This brush has replaceable (each lasting around three months) round heads, and incorporates a smart pressure sensor that has a light indicator to let you know if you are brushing too hard (red), too soft (white), or just right (green). There are up to seven modes that include: daily brushing, gum care, whitening, sensitive (my favorite), super sensitive, intense, and tongue clean. There is a gentle vibrational pulsing reminder when you need to switch quadrants, and one to let you know your two-minute brushing cycle is complete.

This is a “smart” brush that uses a bluetooth connection to your smartphone to provide AI tracking with 3D capability to map out where you have brushed and areas you may have missed on each tooth. The Oral-B iO series uses a unique frictionless magnetic drive system so that all the energy is directed to the oscillating-rotating bristles on the brush head for maximum cleaning efficiency. There is a conductive charging stand and Power2Go charging travel case included with each unit. I also like the smiley face on the handle display that lets you know you have done well and the frowny face when perhaps you were too hasty in your brushing. The Oral-B iO is available in pink, white, purple, or a really high-tech-looking onyx. So, go on—have some fun brushing your teeth!
