Dr. Sam Bierstock doesn`t mind having the only band in the country bold enough to sing about the pitfalls of HMOs. He and his band took a short break recently from a national tour to record the CD single "Mastoid Sally" and "You Picked a Fine Time to Leave Me Blue Shield." Mastoid Sally is a foot-tapping, teeth-grinding tribute to dentists, which is sung to the popular tune of "Mustang Sally." The entire six-member band appears in the photo illustration on the CD cover in a chase scene where they are haunted by a savage set of grinding teeth. The band`s keyboard player, Dr. Jimmy Pantel, is a dentist.
With managed-care issues dominating headlines and emerging as a top concern for millions of Americans, Dr. Sam, a former eye surgeon, says he recorded the song after it was repeatedly requested at performances and on his Web site, which receives an average of 1,500 hits a day.
