The Levin Group is very pleased to cosponsor the Dental Practice of the Year program with Dental Economics. This is the second year of the Dental Practice of the Year program, and we already have received many applications.

Our motivation for developing the Dental Practice of the Year program is based on the realization that many of our clients wanted information on how they compared to other dental practices. While there are excellent market-research studies, such as those published by Dental Economics each year, no overall practice-performance study exists that allows dentists to understand their potential relative to other practices. This new program has allowed The Levin Group and Dental Economics to bring to the profession a sense of benchmarking.

Benchmarking

Benchmarking is a business concept that allows any business to compare itself to another in its field or a related field. The Dental Practice of the Year program has attracted between 250 and 300 applicants who feel that they have outstanding practices. Frankly, the majority of those who apply do have outstanding practices and should be very proud of what they have achieved. While it was fascinating for The Levin Group to have the opportunity to read all of the applications and visit many of these practices, a selection process takes place that identifies one practice as the Dental Practice of the Year. The criteria to win the award include a number of different areas that all contribute to a well-balanced practice that has excelled.

Each year, Dental Economics publishes an article with photographs of the Dental Practice of the Year. We received many cards, letters, and telephone calls from individuals commenting on last year`s article. Many found the article helpful in understanding what can be achieved and learned from the wonderful ideas that were highlighted in the June 1998 article about the Dental Practice of the Year winners. We know that a number of people have visited last year`s Dental Practice of the Year and that our goal - creating a benchmark that others can look to for a sense of comparison and future potential for their practices - has been achieved.

Another year

This year, the Dental Practice of the Year award continues. A new logo and crystal obelisk will become the hallmark of the program and be presented to all winners from the second year forward. As I travel throughout the United States giving over 110 seminars annually, I am delighted by the number of people who have made a point of letting me k ow they found some good ideas in the article about last year`s winners.

I would like to take this opportunity to encourage any of you who feel you have practices that should be considered for Dental Practice of the Year to complete an application. To receive one, call (888) 973-0000 or write to Dental Practice of the Year, The Levin Group, 10 New Plant Court, Owings Mill, MD 21117. We will be delighted to answer your questions and send you an application.

Summary

One key business-success strategy is always to have a sense of what can be achieved, what others are achieving, and how they were able to do it. This will shorten the time it takes for you to reach your highest potential and allow you to focus on other aspects of your success. Good luck!
