I have it—You want it! CosmeCORE dual-cured buildup material from Cosmedent

Core buildups have really evolved over time, from the early days of amalgam core to glass ionomer cores to RMGI cores to light-cured resin cores, and finally, to today’s dual-cured resin materials. Fortunately, they all worked. I particularly like CosmeCore, the new dual-cure resin material developed by Bob Margeas, DDS, and available from Cosmedent. 

In particular I like that it has a 7 mm depth of cure and it sets quite hard, will not gouge, and feels like dentin when you prep the core. And, since it is a dual-cure material, it is ideal when restoring an endodontically treated tooth with a fiber post(s) as you can secure your post with this same core material. CosmeCore is a radiopaque, auto-mix material that handles nicely without slumping, has a 90-second working time (longer than most others), and is fully set in about five minutes. It is available in shades A2, blue, or white, in 50 gram 1:1 auto-mix cartridges or 8 gram trial size. 

From a technique standpoint, it is recommended to etch the tooth first and then rinse, but leave the tooth moist; next apply a dual-cure adhesive resin such as Cosmedent’s Complete, and then dispense CosmeCore and light cure for five seconds for an initial set. After waiting an additional five seconds, fully cure for 40 seconds, thus reducing any rapid heat buildup. CosmeCore is an excellent material that allows for both a rapid and secure placement of fiber posts and a hard-core buildup of immediate tooth preparation.
