In other action, the FDA has approved the first over-the-counter marketing for a nicotine-patch, smoking-cessation aid available without a prescription for adults. The patch-Nicotrol Transdermal System-has been available with a prescription in the United States since 1992. It will be available in a 15-mg strength and sold as a six-week smoking-cessation treatment.
