Let’s play a game—
let’s grow your dental practice!

This month we’re putting a dental spin on one of my favorite board games. Check it out and play along!

Rules of the game

The objective of Dentabble is to rack up the most dental marketing points. Points are earned by spelling out words using the letters in your hand. Each letter and space has a point value. If you use all of the letters in your hand in one turn, you get a 50-point bonus. After you’ve laid down your dental marketing term, add up your points for the round.

Tips to win
  • Positioning—Placement is everything in Dentabble. Hitting a double or triple word space (pink and red, respectively) multiplies your success. You may have a great play lined up but use it in the wrong place, and you’ll wast your turn (and marketing budget).

  • Look at the numbers—For a point boost, it’s tempting to lay down a Z or Q the minute you get one in your hand, but just because something is new and exciting doesn’t mean it will work well for your practice. Look at the hard numbers and make moves that bring the biggest return on investment (ROI).

These have already been played . . .
Online [marketing]: 8 points

Good news: double letter score! Bad news: every letter is 1 point. Online marketing is cheap and appealing, but sometimes you get what you pay for.

Reviews: 42 points

Triple word score! Reviews can really pay off. And remember placement. If a W or V had hit the double letter score space, that’d be a 22-point swing. Prioritize reviews on Google and Facebook: 84% of consumers trust these just as much as word of mouth!1

Don’t let your revenue hit one of these! Market consistently and don’t rely solely on referrals.

Website: 14 points

Websites are requirements, but they aren’t a marketing strategy. They’re a means used to turn the traffic from your marketing into a new patient.

PPC ads: 24 points—very decent!

Like I keep saying, placement is everything. If you’re running pay-per-click (PPC) ads, make sure they’re restricted to your local territory and included on Google Maps results.

Posts: A disappointing 9 points

Facebook is cracking down (even more!) on the reach of organic posts. Get around this by sharing and boosting your best posts. For example, this would’ve been a better play had the P landed on the space with the triple letter score.

Training: 140 points—Holy moly!

Two triple word scores and a 50-point bonus for using all seven letters! Just goes to show you: training your staff properly (from the time they pick up the phone to when they say, “Have a nice day!”) creates momentum that adds up quickly.

Now you play!
Play the marketing strategy worth 98 points.

Unscramble the words in your hand to to the right and play it in the space indicated. You’ll nab a triple word score plus the 50-point bonus for playing all your letters.

Hint: this marketing tactic is extremely effective if you play it right, like many of my clients who have increased new patient numbers 147%, 156% and even 300%!
