Are you working smarter instead of harder in 2015?

Working smarter means making the most of your PE - and no, we're not talking about physical education. PE stands for personal engagement - the combination of your God-given talents (the traits that set you apart from others) and your opportunities at any given time.

Maybe you noticed in your lifetime that there are three basic categories of people. There are people who are naturally gifted at what they do, but they don't put 100% effort into it. They get by on talent alone, and their laziness keeps them from reaching their full capacity.

Then there are the people who aren't naturally gifted in their fields. But these people work their butts off to keep up with the pack. They work late and come in early. They do 200% when their coworkers are doing only 75%. These are the people who maximize their opportunities.

Then there is the third category, the sweet spot. The people in this category are fortunate enough to get paid for their natural gifts, and they work hard to reach their full potential every day. They seize opportunities that are presented to them. They achieve and overachieve. These are the workers who will inevitably rise to the top.

Our goal for clients at the Scheduling Institute is to help them fit into the third category. How you use this combination of talents and attitude is what will determine your success. A lot of people don't understand that it's what you do with your talents that determines what you will become and what your legacy will be.

Think about the lifestyle of a farmer. His success is incredibly dependent on his interaction with nature. He knows he has to make the most of what he's given. So do you know what the farmer does? He wakes up at the crack of dawn and works until dark. He maximizes his daylight hours. He works harder during the planting and harvest seasons, and then he prepares during the winter. The farmer works smart.

We believe that the next 10 years will be the most prosperous, golden years that the "smile" industry has ever known. What does this mean for you? You're going to experience a 10-year long summer, an overload of opportunity.

If this is true, how are you going to maximize your PE? What will you do in 2015 to highlight your God-given talents and make the most of every opportunity that comes your way?

Bring your PE to an all-time high in 2015 by increasing your focus and intentionality. Be intentional about recognizing your weaknesses and delegating these areas of responsibility to others. Create a leadership team and let them lead! Let others take these things off your plate so you can focus on your strong areas.

Likewise, if someone else is struggling in an area that you believe is your strength, make a trade! Work smarter instead of harder. Remember, you can use your talents to leverage your opportunities. If you find that sweet spot, the next 10 years could be the best 10 you've ever had.
