KOMET USA introduces a sonic handpiece

June 3, 2009

ROCK HILL, South Carolina--KOMET USA is launching its first sonic handpiece, the KOMET SF1LM.

To be used in conjunction with this sonic handpiece, KOMET USA is also introducing two new Sonic Tips designed for finishing crown cores.

The KOMET SF1LM is a sonic handpiece that assists the user for prepping tooth structure for crown placement. When used in combination with the SF1LM sonic handpiece, KOMET's Sonic Tips not only achieve results for the creation of durable restorations, but they do not injure the patient's gums even if direct contact occurs.

The SF1LM has a built-in halogen light and comes with three different power settings. It is lightweight (2.86 oz.), thus reducing user fatigue, and works at a frequency of 6 kHz. During the prepping stage, an adequate supply of sufficient spray cooling (at least 30 to 60 mL/min) is released during operation.

In addition to the SF1LM handpiece, KOMET has also introduced two new Sonic Tips (SF8878KD.000.018 [distal] and SF8878KM.000.018 [mesial]) for interproxmial positioning and finishing. The tips were developed with the advice of Professor Hüsamettin Günay at the Medical School of Hanover University, Germany.

These tips complement the Massironi technique. The first tips for crown preparation were designed, in collaboration with Dr. Domenico Massironi of Milan, Italy, to match their corresponding rotary instruments; however, the working parts of the tips are not symmetrical but cut in half lengthwise. The advantage of this "halved" tip is so it cannot damage neighboring teeth.

These two new Sonic Tips, suggested by Professor Günay, join the four other tips (SF979.000.014 and 016, SF862.000.014 and SF847KR.000.016) in a series previously introduced by KOMET.

Practitioners should see the impact by using the KOMET SF1LM and a combination of Sonic Tips and diamond rotary instruments for crown preparations.
